Today is Read Across America Day and in some schools it is called Dr. Seuss day. I love that there is a day celebrating the joy of reading. Our reading date was one of our surprisingly enjoyable dates we have had.
I have to admit it didn’t make for much conversation but we both enjoyed the peace and not having to answer to all the requests at home. (Laundry, dishes, making meals etc). We did take breaks to share some of the things we were reading about and would have little dicussions about it.
I always love a list of book recommendations, so here are a few from us.
TO READ TOGETHER:
The Road Back to You – This is a book about the Enneagram. (If you haven’t heard of the Enneagram it is a personality typing). It does have a bit of a spiritual part to it but I don’t think you have to be religious to read it. It’s not too preachy. It is an easy read and has helped me so much in understanding people and especially my husband.
The Path Between Us – I haven’t read this yet but I hope to read it this year for our marriage.
Unbroken – We both LOVED this book. It was also great because we watched the movie about it after we both read this book.
365 Connecting Questions – This isn’t really a book to read but it is a book that you can use to help you stay emotionally connected with each other.
Educated – A fascinating read about a woman who grew up in a secluded home.
Where the Crawdads Sing – This was a fun read and very engaging. I didn’t want to put it down.
The Count of Monte Cristo – A Classic book that my husband is trying to get through. It is a long one but a very exciting book.
The Call of the Wild – With the movie coming out soon we both want to get a refresher on this one. We both think we have read it before but aren’t quite sure. Does this happen to anyone else?
