I have to admit, it is hard for me to write a post about Date Nights In because they aren’t my favorite. I am one who has to go out and get away from the distractions of home to feel like it is an actual date. But I know there are a lot of people who love this idea and often have Date Nights at Home. So, here is the first in a series of Date Night In Ideas.
We both have always loved games and anything that feeds our competitive spirit. This makes for some fun adventures and great memories but it can also make for some interesting game nights. We both don’t like to lose. Thankfully we have found a few games that are fairly quick to play so we can get in a few games and both of us win at least once.
One of the ways we have discovered new board games are date nights at MOX Boarding House
This is a game room and restaurant all rolled into one. While you wait for a table, which can be a long wait you can select any board game on their wall of games. And if you don’t know what they like you can ask them for suggestions. You can play the game while waiting and then you can take the game with you while you eat in their restaurant. So…much…fun! While we like lots of games here are the top 3 that we have enjoyed playing with just the two of us.
HIVE – A game crawling with possibilities.
This game actually doesn’t need a board, so maybe it’s not really a board game. But you do need a flat surface. It comes with 26 Hexagon shaped pieces. Each one of these pieces has an insect on them. From the Queen Bee to an ant, each piece has a unique move allowing for strategic play to happen. The object of the game is to surround your opponent’s Queen Bee. This is a strategic game and at times it can move a little slow but it makes for some fun competition.
Wait, you have never heard of this game? That’s weird. We hadn’t either. But this one came recommended to us by one of the super friendly employees at Mox Boarding House. Onitama is described as An Elegant and Simple Game of Martial Tactics. This game is perfect for two people and it goes by quickly. Many people compare it to chess since it has a lot of strategy involved. It is compared to chess so it has some strategy involved. But not so much strategy that you can’t talk to each other. (We have played those kind of games before and they aren’t very fun).
This is a very popular game and an easy one to play with the whole family. But of course you can also play it with just two people for a date night. The game moves along very quickly and while there is some strategy involved you don’t spend too much time on one turn. What we enjoy about this game is that you always think you are winning and then when you finish and count up all your points you can still be surprised by who wins.
Bonus Board Game –
This isn’t a board game but it is based off one of the most popular board games ever. As most people know, Monopoly is really a game of patience because the game takes sooooo long. Well, someone was a genius and came up with this card game that has all the elements of monopoly in a game that last less than 15 minutes. This is a great game to play as a couple and it is also very easy to take along anywhere. Perfect for a date night!
