Last week we went on Date #3 for our January Date Nights. I decided to keep it a secret and it was so fun.
I have always wanted to try Axe Throwing since I had seen a few advertisements for it. When doing my research I found Blade & Timber, located on Broadway in Capitol Hill. I had to schedule a 1.5 hour time slot and also had to pick “share-a-lane”. I wasn’t too excited about that idea but it was easy to schedule our time slot.
Brad still had no idea what we were doing even as we drove past the place. We found some parking and walked to the entrance. He looked up at the sign and said “Blade & Timber? Axe-throwing? This might be the coolest date ever.” (Well, I’m still not sure what to think of that. We have been on a lot of dates and they aren’t all that bad). But I was thrilled he was so excited about it.
Once we checked in and filled out the waiver we headed to our lane. A coach came over a few minutes later. We were supposed to be waiting for another couple but they were late so the coach just started with us. This ended up working out nicely because we had our own lane the whole night. (It probably helped that it was a Thursday night and it wasn’t as busy).
The coach explained the safety rules and proceeded to show us how to actually throw an axe. Something we have both never done before. After a few throws he would adjust our distance to make sure we were in the best spot for our throwing power.
We had an hour and a half in our lane. It was the perfect amount of time to practice throwing without feeling rushed or trying to get the most out of our money. Now I am not sure how I would have felt sharing a lane and only having that time but I don’t think it would be too bad.
The coaches were great! They came back every once in a while to give us pointers and also to teach us how to throw two axes and underhand.
Not everything is perfect. There were a few things that didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked.
- No food selection. I guess they are working on this but we had no dinner options and not even snacks. We were so hungry. Thankfully we were able to go across the street and grab some food.
- Tip. When you sign your bill there is an option for tip. I didn’t even think about this when I was calculating the cost. Obviously we don’t have to tip them but the coaches were helping us quite a bit.
Overall, I would highly recommend axe throwing and Blade & Timber for axe throwing. There isn’t a lot of date nights that gets a guy excited but this one definitely made my man happy. Have you tried Axe Throwing? What did you think?
